Working of Crime Branch
The Crime branch of Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar is headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The Officers and Staff of Crime branch mostly deal with inquiry and investigation into serious and sensitive crimes. It has following Units:
Crime Detection Unit (UNIT 1,2,3 and Central Unit)
Three units for each zone, along with the Central Crime Investigation Unit, operate under the Crime Detection Unit.This branch primarily handles investigations into severe criminal activities such as murder, attempted murder, extortion, narcotics, motor vehicle theft rings, drug-related offenses, underworld gangs, organized crime syndicates, robbery, and dacoity. The complexity of these crimes necessitates a specialized team of dedicated officers to conduct thorough investigations.
Besides these units, the following units also work under the Crime Branch.
Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU):
This cell initiates an action under the PITA Act (The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956) on organized prostitution, rackets carried out in Hotels, Guest houses, Beauty parlors, Dance Bars, and Brothels. Mainly Brothels are checked to rescue the minor girls and Victims forced into prostitution.
Additionally, actions are taken against child labor by inspecting factories, warehouses, and other establishments where illegal child labor is occurring. If child laborers are found, they are rescued, and efforts are made for their rehabilitation. Presently ATHU units are working at Bhayandar and Nalasopara.
Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC):
The Branch initiates action against persons who manufacture, transport, possess, or sell narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances like Heroin, Morphine, Ganja, Charas, Hashish oil, Cocaine, Mephedrone, LSD, Ketamine, Amphetamine, and other substances under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985. The ANC also organizes awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to educate students about the harmful effects of narcotic substances.
Anti Terrorist Branch (ATB):
This purpose of forming this cell is to prevent terrorist activities and gain information about anti-national elements working in the Police Commissionerate Jurisdiction also to deradicalize people who got radicalized towards terrorism.
Anti Extortion Cell (AEC):
The main objective of establishing the Anti-Extortion Cell is to ensure thorough investigation and prevention of serious crimes like extortion within the Commissionerate. To achieve this, a dedicated Anti-Extortion cell has been operational under the Crime Branch.
Bharosa Cell:
The main objective of establishing the Bharosa cell is Women's counseling, legal advice, and other support to help victims of domestic violence and abuse.
Bharosa cells provide services like counseling, legal services, and psychotherapy.
Bharosa Cell is also create positive results in crime prevention, redressal of women's grievances, and redressal of matrimonial.
The Bharosa Cell also conducts awareness campaigns in schools and colleges on identifying "Good Touch and Bad Touch."
Presently Bharosa Cell is working at Bhayandar and Nalasopara.
